Name: 4th Annual Elkton Community Juneteenth Celebration
    Date: June 19, 2023
    Time: 10:30 AM - 2:00 PM EDT
celebrate Juneteenth in the Elkton Community
    Event Description:
This is a community wide event and is the major celebration of Juneteenth in Cecil County. On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Texas were told they were free. A century and a half later, people across the U.S. continue to celebrate the day, which is now a federal holiday. Our theme is“ A Day of Recognition, Restoration, Celebration”. At its core, Juneteenth is about taking a moment to reflect on and acknowledge our nation’s past as well as coming together to forge a better future. It is both a celebration of progress made and a re-commitment to push forward, and welcomes those of all races, ethnicities, religions and backgrounds.

Our celebration emphasizes unity in the community and through our community sponsors is focusing on health, education, and information.  Our Keynote Speaker is Professor Dale Green from Morgan State University. ChristianaCare-Cecil County, Cecil County Health and Community Services Departments, Cecil County Public Library, Cecil College, United Way, Elkton Colored School Museum & Cultural Center, Cecil County NAACP, and the United Way are just some of the organizations that will be present with information and activities. There will be special performances by the Walnut St. YMCA Essence Legacy Performing Arts & African Drummers. We will have face painting, balloon twisting, a 360 degree photo booth, food and more. All are welcome. Please join us in celebrating and honoring Juneteenth "Freedom Day".
