Cecil County Hunkers Down For More Winter Weather

ELKTON, MD. -- As if last Friday's Winter Wind Storm Riley wasn't enough for one week, Mother Nature is in the process of unloading yet another weather event on Cecil County.
 
A mixture of snow, rain and fluctuating temperatures are forecasted for our region today and while accumulation is uncertain, Cecil County Public Works is already out and about working to maintain safe travel conditions. According to weather reports from The National Weather Service (NWS), Cecil County is in a Winter Storm Warning until early Thursday morning. The warning states that this storm could produce heavy, wet snow resulting in possible power outages, reduced visibility and difficult travel conditions throughout the region.

"This storm is unpredictable at best," said County Executive Alan McCarthy, "It's one of those days where if you have the option to stay home, you should take it. The less commuters we have out there, the faster our crews can get the roads cleared and safe to travel on."
 
Cecil County Public Schools, Cecil College and many neighboring counties and businesses have closed or altered their schedules for the day. Cecil County Government employees are currently operating on a liberal leave status. Director of Administration Al Wein commented that "we will keep ourselves updated on changing weather conditions and proceed accordingly as the day progresses."
 
Dan Webber, Cecil County Roads Division Chief added, "Our trucks are out assessing the conditions. For the most part, they're reporting bare pavement but we have a quite few hours to go in the storm and that could change. The northern part of the County, Rising Sun and Conowingo are getting it the worst, but even that isn't so bad right now. We're on top of it."
 
NWS also advises to use caution while shoveling to prevent over exertion from removing wet snow. In the event of a medical emergency, you are directed to call 9-1-1 immediately. Please report any roads related issues to the Roads Division at 410-996-6270. The County will utilize their website (www.ccgov.org) and social media sites to make updates on closings, emergency situations, travel conditions and more over the course of the storm.
